Details about the Rangefinders

  • Sharp Infrared Rangefinders
    • They have a limited range
    • Accuracy of them can be affected by the reflectiveness of the surface you are finding the distance to, the color of the surface, ambient lighting in the room, and the angle the surface is at
    • As you get closer to an object, the output of the sensor increases (in a non-linear curve) until it reaches a certain threshold. If the object continues to get closer, then the output of the sensor will start going down
      • You can see a graph of this:
    • A more detailed description of how they work can be found at http://www.acroname.com/robotics/info/articles/sharp/sharp.html
