ToolTron

ToolTron is the Robotics Club's machine shop tool-access system - a drop-in addition to machine tools which enhances machine shop safety. ToolTron prevents untrained individuals from using machine tools by connecting electrical relays to the Robotics Club's member database. Prior to turning on a machine tool, a user will request tool access by inserting an RFID tag into a reader mounted on the machine, causing ToolTron to query the member database. If the individual has received the necessary safety training, power will be connected to the machine tool.

Hardware development for the Tooltron project is well underway. The group is finishing up their first prototype board in preparation for initial testing. Soon, the team will switch from hardware to software development, beginning with an overhaul of the Robotic Club's member database, and transition to a lightweight "Customer Relationship Management" system.
